While the pandemic caused TAKE’s building to be closed down for almost 5 months, significantly impacting TAKE’s ability to serve those in need, with YOUR help TAKE adapted and overcame, pushing forward to help community members in need with the resources available.

  • TAKE initiated Drive-Up Donations over the summer, while our building was closed. The community responded with overwhelming support—filling a 22 ft. box truck (donated by DMACC!) in just 23 hours–donating bags, boxes, trunk- and truck-fulls!
  • On July 27, 2020, TAKE was able to reopen, with reduced hours and reduced shopping capacity, which meant that fewer shoppers could be served and less of our generous donations could go back into the community. TAKE was also unable to accept any more general donations because we were unable to turn around donations we already had as quickly.
  • TAKE was hit hard by the derecho–the roof over the Christmas Room was damaged substantially & the power was out for 5 days. We returned to standing water, fallen ceiling tiles & plaster, and unfortunately, many wet bags of donations.
  • TAKE began an Item of the Week program for 10 weeks, seeking to restock items running low and to stock our annual Christmas Room.
  • TAKE was still able to offer our annual Christmas Room event for 11 two-hour-long “Christmas shopping” days in December, helping community members in need find holiday gifts for their loved ones!
